So it’s clear: parties with VIP guests? Good. Marking your child’s communion? Too risky

Listen: can you hear that sound? It’s the clunk of millions of jaws hitting the ground simultaneously. Talk about wasted opportunities. Apparently, we could have been kicking up our heels since early last month, enjoying outdoor events for up to 200 people. The Government just neglected to share the secret. It might never have emerged if not for Leo Varadkar’s attendance at a gathering for 50 hosted by Katherine Zappone.
Now that we know about this boost to our prospects for mingling, maybe we should send our thanks to the Tánaiste and the former children’s minister.
Or maybe gratitude is premature. As more details about the Merrion Hotel event emerge, there is a distinct smack of “do as I say, not as I do”.
