Gardaí in Pearse Street have confiscated a huge haul of violent weapons in Dublin City Centre today.
Authorities seized several instruments including lump hammers, claw hammers, knives, iron bars, an axe, and a bat in the Dublin 2 area.
Gardaí are investigating into the incident.
In a social media post, An Garda Síochana said: “Pearse Street Gardaí, as part of Operation Pier, seized a number of weapons in the Dublin 2 area.
“These weapons included lump hammers, claw hammers, knives, iron bars and a bat.
“Investigations into this incident are ongoing at this time.”
The seizure took place as part of Operation Pier, a dedicated public safety and street crime unit combatting anti-social behaviour, drug order offences, and general criminal activity.
Speaking about the Operation’s success to The Irish Sun, Sergeant Brendan Brogan said: “The rationale behind it was to have a permanent presence on the street of the same core group of people who would be able to tackle anti-social behaviour, public order offences, drug activity, theft-related incidents and general criminality.
“Operation Pier is there to provide a highly visible policing presence on the street and to give reassurance to the general public.
“Not just to the business community who are here all the time, but also to our pedestrians who come in from other areas and give a form of reassurance that there is a visible presence to detect crime that happens.”
