The safety nets are being removed. Pretty soon, the common enemy will be deemed to be defeated, the alternative rulers will be consigned to history and the cash to buy off problems will dry up.
The end of the Covid-19 emergency is on the horizon in the coming months, with the virus to be downgraded to a public health issue that needs constant, vigilant management.
The closure of that chapter will mean no more need for Nphet as a National Public Health Emergency Team becomes redundant when there’s no longer an emergency. The unprecedented levels of spending to keep the country afloat and retain cohesion in society during the shutdown will be turned off.
