Jacub Kostanski is just one of the thousands of students who joined homeless people as reluctant guests in hotels across the country.
On Tuesday night, the third year student at Athlone Institute of Technology went to sleep at the nearby Creggan Court Hotel.
He’s among 20 students paying €50 per night, along with an extra €10 for breakfast.
‘I’ve spent the last three or four months emailing, calling and looking around for accommodation,’ he told RTÉ News.
‘It’s hard to find anywhere, especially in Athlone because a lot of the places pulled back from student accommodation because of COVID.’
Thankfully, the young man’s luck turned on Tuesday, managing to secure a room in shared digs, but for many others the search continues.
