Afghanistan: Russians deserted 20+ years ago; then it took the UK, followed by the recent exit by the US leaving people in fear for their lives, especially women, people starving. Those mineral resources like lithium/Opium that they sought became an impossible “Take” so they just pulled their troops and left the people to die or basically just survive.
