Kieran Creaven not assigned a job or enrolled at school in prison

Convicted paedophile Kieran Creaven is living a “quiet life” in prison, having opted not to further his education, and has not been assigned a job behind bars.
The former RTÉ sports producer has not formed any particular friendships with other inmates. “He doesn’t go to the prison school, he hasn’t been assigned a job. He just stays on his prison landing and goes to the yard. He causes no trouble and is leading a very quiet life in jail,” said a prison source.
He “very much keeps himself to himself” and has not come to the attention of prison officers for any kind of misbehaviour.
“In many ways, he’s a model prisoner. But he is very much doing nothing. He hasn’t enrolled in school and he hasn’t been assigned a job. It is like he’s just waiting around to get out, but he has many years left to serve,” added the prison source.
While a significant proportion of inmates are assigned prison jobs, such as in the kitchens or laundry, there are not always enough to go around.
In December, Judge Melanie Greally sentenced 59-year-old Creaven to 10 years in prison. He had pleaded guilty to four counts of child exploitation, two counts of sexually assaulting a child and four counts of child pornography. The offences took place in Ireland, the UK and the Philippines in 2014 and 2017.
He has already served a little over a year while on remand, and with remission he’ll be free in six-and-a-half years. Creaven has engaged with a sex offenders’ treatment programme since his imprisonment.
