FTCD, BCL (NUI) LLM (BERKELEY) Ph.D. (EUROPEAN UNIV INST FLORENCE), BL (Kings Inns), DALF (Paris), MA (Dub), BL, Inns of Court NI), Senior Attorney (Law Library) Dublin), Barrister (Lincolns Inn, England & Wales, Northern Ireland), Solicitor (New York State), is a Fellow of Trinity College Dublin, where he is a University Board Member and Fellows Chair. He is a senior counsel and attorney with the New York Bar Association. In 2014/15 he was a Visiting Research Fellow at Brasenos College, Oxford, and a Visiting Professor at the University of Zurich and Notre Dame, where he taught as part of the JD programme.

The future of European social rights and legal concepts. The study focuses on the challenges to existing legal concepts that are being challenged by the deepening of European integration. His research projects at NYU are jurisprudential studies of European legal concepts in terms of the effects of complexity, cost, enforcement, and psychological necessity, and theoretical studies of European concepts of social rights.

He was a member of the Trinity College Board of Trustees (2014-2018, since 2018) and served as Trinity College Fellows Chair from 2015-2018. He is a member of the Joint Management Committee of China-EU School of Law (http://en.cesl.edu.cn/). He teaches in the areas of EU law, jurisprudence and legal competency, where he enrolls postgraduate students. Internationally, he is a visiting professor at the Universities of Hamburg, Humboldt University, the China-EU School of Law, the University of Zurich (2014) and the University of Notre Dame School of Law (2015), the Emile Noel Senior Research Fellow at the University of New York Law School (2016), Visiting Scholar at Brasenose College, Oxford (2014), Fellow at the European University Institute (Florence), Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley and McGill University, Court Law Clerk. He was trained at the US law firm Hughes Hubbard & Reed and is a Senior Advisor to the Irish Bar. He is admitted to practise in England and Wales, Northern Ireland and New York. He has acted as counsel in numerous reporting cases at all levels in the Irish Court of Justice, the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights of the Council of Europe.

He is a fellow of Trinity College and of the European Law Institute. He is a member of the Board of Trinity College (2014-2018, 2018-date) and was Chair of the Fellows of Trinity College 2015-2018. He is a member of the Joint Managerial Committee of the China – EU School of Law (http://en.cesl.edu.cn/). He teaches in the fields of European Union Law, Jurisprudence, and Lawyering Skills, and accepts research students in these areas. Internationally he has been a visiting professor at the University of Hamburg, Humboldt University, the China-EU School of Law, the University of Zurich (2014), and Notre Dame Law School (2015), Senior Emile Noel Fellow at New York University Law School (2016), visiting fellow at Brasenose College Oxford (2014), Fellow at the European University Institute (Florence), visiting scholar the University of California at Berkeley and at McGill University, a référendaire in the Court of Justice.
