Shocking injuries: Man (30s) arrested after two men doused in acid in horror attack in Cork

Gardai have arrested a man in his 30s in connection with a horror acid attack in Cork city last night.
The shocking incident occurred at a house at around 8pm on Connolly Road in Ballyphehan on Cork City’s southside.
A 45-year-old man suffered injuries to his face, head and upper body after having acid thrown on him.
He was rushed to Cork University Hospital where his injuries have been described as serious, but not life-threatening.
A second man also suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital this morning while a third man received treatment for his injuries at the scene.
Shortly after midnight, gardai arrested a man in his 30s in connection with the incident and he is currently being detained under Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Bridewell Garda Station.
The victims were treated at the scene in a decontamination unit operated by Cork City Fire Service before being transferred to hospital.
A garda spokesman said the scene of the attack has been preserved and scenes of crime officers will conduct an examination later this morning.
“Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of an incident at a residence on Connolly Road in Ballyphehane, Co. Cork on Friday evening, 4th March 2022,” he said.
“Gardaí were alerted to the incident at approximately 8.20pm.
“Two men, one in his 40s and the other in his 30s, were removed to Cork University Hospital with what are believed to be serious but non-life threatening injuries. A third man (30s) received treatment for his injuries at the scene.
Gardaí arrested a man, aged in his 30s, shortly after midnight, 5th March 2022. He is currently detained under Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Bridewell Garda Station.”
