


Over €100,000 of smuggled beer seized by officers at Dublin Port

Revenue officers have seized a whopping €100,000 of smuggled beer at Dublin Port this morning.
The beer was discovered after the search of a Romanian registered truck and trailer that came on a ferry from Holyhead, Wales.
The 25,400 litres of smuggled alcohol, branded ‘Perla’, had an estimated retail value of €101,300.

According to the Revenue: ‘Today (15/03/2022), Revenue officers seized over 25,400 litres of beer following the search of a Romanian registered truck and trailer that had disembarked a ferry from Holyhead, Wales.’
‘The smuggled alcohol, branded ‘Perla’, had an estimated retail value of €101,300, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €47,400.’
The statement continued: ‘The consignment was seized following routine profiling aimed at identifying alcohol products that may be diverted onto the market without payment of the tax and duties due.’
‘Investigations are ongoing.’

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illicit alcohol products in the shadow economy.
In January, Gardai and Revenue officers seized over €1million worth of cannabis in a raid targeting people involved in organised crime.
