Gardaí launch investigation after woman’s body found in Sligo

Gardaí are investigating the death of an elderly woman after her body was found at a property in Ballymote, Co Sligo over the weekend.

The discovery was made at approximately 2:00 pm on Sunday, with Gardaí looking into ‘all circumstances’ surrounding the 70-year-old’s death.

The body of the woman has since been removed to the mortuary at Sligo University Hospital, where a post mortem is likely to take place in the coming days.

The forensic examination will further determine the course of the investigation.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana told Extra. ie; ‘Gardai are investigating all the circumstances following the discovery of a body of a woman in her 70s at a property in Ballymote, Co. Sligo, at approximately 2 pm yesterday, Sunday 24th April 2022.’

‘Her body has since been removed to the mortuary at Sligo University Hospital where a post-mortem will take place at a later date, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation.’
