A MOTORIST refused to provide a breath sample to gardaí after he was arrested on suspicion of drink driving following a road crash in central Dublin.

Igor Plugari (32) had been in an accident with two other cars when he failed to provide a sample at a garda station.

Judge Treasa Kelly banned him from driving for four years and fined him €500 at Dublin District Court.

Plugari, of The Beech, Granary Court, Edenderry, Co Offaly, pleaded guilty.

The court heard the accused was in a collision involving three vehicles at Usher’s Quay on February 20 this year.

Some passengers received minor injuries and Plugari failed a roadside breath test.

He was then taken to Kevin Street garda station, where he failed to provide a breath sample. He had one previous conviction for drink driving, for which he had been fined and disqualified for two years.

Plugari, from Moldova, had been in Ireland for six years and worked in a meat factory, his barrister Vanessa Frawley said. He complied with the garda’s requirements initially and regretted how things went in the garda station. Plugari apologised for the offence.

Ms Frawley asked the judge to give the accused credit for his guilty plea.
