A second detective has been suspended as part of an ongoing anti-corruption inquiry by An Garda Siochana into the supply of information to the Hutch criminal gang.
The officer handled high-grade intelligence on organised crime at Garda Headquarters. He is not suspected of knowingly colluding with criminals but is thought to have casually disclosed information to a former colleague, who was providing intelligence to the gang. Gardai believe he was targeted for specific information.
The National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (NBCI) and the force’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) have established that the Hutch gang received specific information that enabled its members to evade arrest, plan attacks, distribute drugs and sabotage prosecutions for crimes including murders.
