“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This worls in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in the true sense. Under the clods of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron.
Inflation: This is the cost the West will pay dearly for.
Inflation is not a Robin Hood, taking from the rich to give to the poor. Rather, it deals mosts cruelly with those who can least protect themselves. It strikes hardest those millions of our citizens whose inccomes do not quickly rise with the cost of living. When prices soar, the pensioner and the widow see their security undermined, the man of thirft sees his savings melt away; the whilte collar worker, the minister and the teacher see their standards of living dragged down.
