Ian Bailey claims allegation he dined with Sophie Toscan du Plantier is a ‘dirty rotten lie’ as he speaks on ‘leaks’ in new probe

Ian Bailey has claimed an allegation he dined with Sophie Toscan Du Plantier before her murder is “a dirty, rotten, stinking lie”.

Bailey spoke for the first time since it emerged that gardai have taken a new statement from a man who claimed the former journalist told him that he and his then-partner Jules Thomas dined with Ms Toscan du Plantier at their home in Schull, West Cork.

The claim, if true, would mean Bailey knew the French film producer – contrary to his insistence that he never met her.

And speaking exclusively to us, Mr Bailey said neither he nor Jules ever had her over for dinner, and he never told anyone that they did either.

“It’s a dirty, rotten, stinking lie. It’s also been suggested by a number of people over the years that I knew her, and again that is completely false.

“It’s a completely erroneous discredited piece of nonsense,” he said.

Bailey, who was convicted of Ms Toscan Du Plantier’s murder in his absence in a French court in 2019, says he’s now concerned that there are “leaks” emerging
