Met Police anti-drugs boss ‘was pictured with cannabis on his table’
- 22:41, 2 Sep 2022
A POLICE commander who drew up an anti-drugs strategy for the Met was pictured with cannabis on his table, a tribunal was told.
Commander Julian Bennett, 63, is also accused of using LSD and magic mushrooms as well as failing to give a sample for a drugs test.

He has been suspended on full pay of £136,000 a year for more than two years since allegedly failing to take a drug test in July 2020.
A gross misconduct case against Cdr Bennett was yesterday adjourned for a third time.
His lawyer John Beggs QC wants the case thrown out because key witness Sheila Gomes has not turned up for the hearings.
She is said to have the evidence he took the drugs.
The Met’s lawyer Mark Ley-Morgan called Mr Beggs’ arguments “preposterous”.
He said Ms Gomes’ absence was irrelevant to Cdr Bennett allegedly failing to provide a drug sample.
The tribunal in Brompton, West London, will next sit on September 30.
