Prison officer charged with drug possession and intent to supply; who is infiltrating our prison service … the alleged attempt to supply is within? Integrity that we expect from our public sector, Gardai, Prison Officers and who knows maybe even the Army, in jeopardy.

A serving prison officer has appeared in court charged with possession of drugs at her home in Dublin and possession with intent to supply.

Marta Cypara, 37, with an address at Saggart Hill Mews, Saggart in Co Dublin, was remanded in custody to appear again next week

Her 28-year-old co-accused, Matausz Kilkowski, also appeared in court today charged with the same offences.

He was remanded on bail to appear again in court in December

The court was told that €144,000 worth of cannabis was discovered when officers from the Tallaght Drugs Unit searched the property in Saggart over the weekend.

Garda Michael Brislane gave evidence that he arrested Ms Cypara, who worked in the prisoner escort service, at 12.22 on Saturday and when she was subsequently charged with the drugs offences she made no reply.

Judge Patricia Mac Namara remanded Ms Cypara in custody with consent to bail to appear again at the Dublin District Court for DPP’s directions.

Mr Matausz was remanded on bail to appear in court again on 19 December.
