Once a protege of Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald, Jonathan Dowdall was before the Special Criminal Court yesterday where he admitted to facilitating a murder that sparked a gangland feud.

The ex-councillor and his father Patrick pleaded guilty to helping a crime gang carry out the fatal shooting of a rival criminal at Dublin’s Regency Hotel over six years ago.
