Even by Putin’s standards, this is really a blistering broadside against the west. He’s drawing a line between the “colonial” western elite and everyone else, going on about the Opium Wars and the Indian mutiny. The message: Russia wants to lead a global resistance to the west.

Vladimir Putin, alongside the Russia-appointed occupation governors, has signed papers that formally complete Russia’s annexation of Ukraine’s regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson.
“The Zaporizhzhia region will be a part of Russia; Melitopol will be the temporary capital. The keyword is ‘temporary’ because we’ll soon liberate the entire region, and Zaporizhzhia will be its capital again,” the occupation official says.
