A DRUG dealer caught selling crack cocaine in Dublin city centre has been jailed for four months.
Patrick Savage (39) was himself in the throes of addiction at the time, a court heard.
The sentence was made consecutive to a six-month prison term he is already serving for a separate offence.
Savage, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs for sale or supply
Dublin District Court heard gardaí saw the accused offering drugs for sale at Grattan Bridge on February 4 last year.
He was stopped and found in possession of 10 deals of crack cocaine, valued at €300.
Savage had 54 previous convictions for offences including sale or supply of drugs.
The accused had been badly injured in an assault while he was homeless, his solicitor Yvonne Bambury said. He was currently serving a sentence in prison and awaiting knee surgery. He had been living on the streets for several years and had addiction problems.
Ms Bambury asked Judge Bryan Smyth not to add to Savage’s current sentence.
Judge Smyth said Savage had previous for the same offence. The judge said he was making the sentence consecutive, but “not as long as it might have been”.
