Christopher ‘Bronco’ Dunne has just finished a fortnight on hunger strike. The man once dubbed Ireland’s “Godfather of Crime” says his refusal to eat was his response to the health service failing to provide him with the medical care and support he needs.
Dunne (85) has health problems linked to a stroke he suffered last year. Outside the front door of his apartment in Merrion Road, Dublin 4, he has pinned a poster outlining his grievances and the basis for his hunger strike.
