Former garda who investigated sex crimes arrested over alleged rape during time with force
The ex-detective was arrested this afternoon and is being held in custody for questioning this evening

A former garda who investigated sex crimes has been arrested over an alleged rape during his time working in the force.
The ex-detective was arrested this afternoon and was being held in custody for questioning this evening.
He was being questioned under the Criminal Law (Rape) Amendment Act 1990 at a Dublin Garda Station.
The Irish Mirror can reveal that the retired garda held a role in a unit that probed sexual and domestic abuse crimes.
“These allegations are a big shock given that the former garda member would have investigated sex crimes,” a source said.
A Garda spokesman today confirmed the arrest.
The spokesman said: “A male has been arrested in relation to alleged offences contrary to the criminal law (Rape) amendment act 1990.
“He is currently detained at a garda station in Dublin.”
