Delivery rider stabbing and ongoing violence sparks protest in Dublin
The public have been urged to show their support to the riders as they face ‘daily attacks, theft

Delivery riders will gather in Dublin city centre this evening to highlight ongoing violence affecting their community.
The public have been urged to join the riders at the O’Connell monument at 5pm today, to show solidarity with them as they face “extreme violence and bike theft”.
A delivery driver was allegedly stabbed in Temple Bar last Wednesday, and the protest’s organisers English Language Students’ Union of Ireland say this is just one of many violent incidents drivers have faced recently.
ELSU’s Fiachra O Luain told Dublin Live that delivery riders in the capital are facing “daily attacks, thefts and lowering pay”.
“Everyone is invited to join riders and express their support for their right to work in peace and with dignity today at 5pm at the O’Connell Monument in Dublin City Ce
“We do not condone the violence and the theft they are subjected to daily and that we want to get to know and understand each other properly so we can rebuild a stronger, more resilient community spirit in our nation’s capital”.
Dozens of drivers gathered together in the city centre on Saturday, highlighting their low pay and safety issues. Dublin Live understands that a meeting between gardai and drivers’ representatives about the ongoing violence will take place this evening.
Commenting on the alleged stabbing that occurred in Temple Bar last week, a garda spokesman told Dublin Live: “Gardai responded to reports of an alleged assault that occurred at approximately 1am, 19 of July 2023 in the Temple Bar area of Dublin 2. Enquiries are ongoing at this time.”
