Two teenagers charged over alleged attack on three British tourists in Dublin’s Temple Bar

TWO teenagers have been charged over an alleged attack on three British tourists in Temple Bar.
The serious assault and robbery incident is claimed to have happened on Fownes Street Upper, Dublin 2 on August 11.

Three men were taken to St James’s Hospital in Dublin to be treated for their injuries.
They have since been released from hospital.
Gardai arrested two teenagers as part of their probe into the incident yesterday morning.
They were both being held at a Garda station in Dublin and have since been charged.
One of the teenagers will appear in court this morning with the other due to attend at a “later date”.
A garda spokesperson said: “Gardai in Pearse Street arrested two males yesterday morning, Monday 21st August 2023, in relation to the investigation into a serious assault and robbery that occurred on Fownes Street Upper, Dublin 2 on the night of Friday, 11th August 2023.
“A male teenage juvenile and a man (aged in his late teens) were arrested and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in Dublin.
“They have both since been charged.
“The man (aged in his late teens) is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice at a later date.
“The male teenage juvenile is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice (Court 2) this morning, Tuesday 22nd August 2023 at 10.30am.”
Separately, gardai are investigating after a man, aged in his 70s, was assaulted during an aggravated burglary in a home in Co Dublin yesterday.
Three others were held against their will in the Monkstown residence after a number of men forced their way into the house at around 8:15am.
The men – who were dressed as workers – knocked on the door of the residential property at Carrickbrennan Lawn and forced their way inside.
They proceeded to hold four occupants against their will before assaulting the man, who was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The men took a number of items in the course of the burglary.
They subsequently left the scene on foot in the direction of Monkstown village.
Gardai in Dún Laoghaire are appealing to any person who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.
In a statement this evening, a garda spokesperson said: “Any persons or road users who were in or around Carrickbrennan Lawn and Monkstown village this morning Monday 21st August between 7.30a.m. and 9:00a.m. and who may have video/dash cam footage is asked to contact investigating gardaí.
