Pensioner assaulted in Dublin home after burglars force way inside and hold four people against their will

A MAN aged in his 70s was assaulted during an aggravated burglary in a home in Co Dublin this morning.

Three others were held against their will in the Monkstown residence after a number of men forced their way into the house at around 8:15 am.

The men – who were dressed as workers – knocked on the door of the residential property at Carrickbrennan Lawn and forced their way inside.

They proceeded to hold four occupants against their will before assaulting the OAP man, who was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The men took a number of items in the course of the burglary.

They subsequently left the scene on foot in the direction of Monkstown village.

Gardaí in Dún Laoghaire are appealing to any person who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.

In a statement this evening, a Garda spokesperson said: “Any persons or road users who were in or around Carrickbrennan Lawn and Monkstown village this morning Monday 21st August between 7.30a.m. and 9:00a.m. and who may have video/dash cam footage is asked to contact investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Dún Laoghaire Garda Station at 01 666 5000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”

They added: “Investigations ongoing.”
