A MAN has been arrested and questioned over the murder of a 22-year-old milkman Eoin Boylan in Dublin almost four years ago.

It is understood he was detained at Mountjoy Prison where he is currently serving a sentence and taken to a Garda Station in the Dublin region last Friday afternoon.

Gardai confirmed the suspect, who is in his thirties, was quizzed over the murder and held for over 24 hours before being released.

He has since been returned to custody to continue serving his sentence pending a file going to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Boylan, 22, was murdered as he stood in the front garden of his home in Coolock, North Dublin, on November 24, 2019.

He was shot six times by a two man hit squad who fled the scene in a Renault Clio.

Eoin was known to Gardai and had been previously warned his life was in danger.

He was the fifth person to die over the so-called Coolock feud in a row over drugs control in the Northside of the city at the time.

A spokesperson for the Irish Prison Service said they could not comment on an individual prisoner.

Last year we revealed how gardai hunting Boylan’s gangland killers called in experts to help identify suspects by their height.

They studied CCTV of the two gunmen who were too “covered up” to be recognised.

The analysts’ findings were compared to detectives’ lists of prime suspects.

Boylan was one of five men murdered that year in the Coolock area.

Just two weeks before his killing, gardai called to his home in the morning to deliver a General Information Message form warning him he was in danger.

THREAT IGNORED

Boylan then travelled to Bettystown in Co Meath and spent the night there.

But, ignoring the threat again, he returned home to Coolock. His killers struck two weeks later.

One theory is he was targeted by supporters of Sean Little, 22, who was shot dead in May 2019.

Following Little’s murder, Boylan posted on social media: “It’s a great day, isn’t it”.

Gardai believe his message was enough to sign his death warrant at the hands of Little’s supporters.
