Two men have been arrested and charged in relation to the theft, criminal damage and unauthorised taking of vehicles in Dublin this week.

On Monday, gardaí sparked an investigation following a number of incidents of theft, criminal damage and the unauthorised taking of two vehicles at a shopping centre in Coolock.

Members attached to Coolock and Santry Garda Stations subsequently conducted searches of residential premises in Ballymun and Coolock yesterday, Tuesday, August 29, and arrested two men aged in their 30s and 20s.

Two cars and a number of items believed to have been stolen were recovered during these searches.

The two men were detained at a Garda Station in the DMR North. Both have been charged and are due to appear before the CCJ Dublin this morning, August 30.

A spokesperson for gardaí said that investigations are ongoing.

Recent figures obtained by the Irish Mirror reveal how 460 cars have been stolen in the DMR West region alone this year, which equates to nearly two a day in the area.

Detective Garda Mark Ferris, DMR West rep for the Garda Representative Association, said stolen vehicles are now a “daily feature of the area.”

He told the Irish Mirror: “These vehicles are being taken unlawfully from hard-working families in west Dublin by criminals who are intent on causing havoc on the road network across the capital.”
