Gardai are to use €2 million worth of government funding to deploy the national public order unit to tackle Dublin ’s crime scourge.
In a major announcement this morning, gardai said that 20 percent of the recent €10M government funding for garda overtime will be used to tackle public order on the streets of Dublin.
The development comes after a recent spate of high-profile incidents of crime in the capital – including a horrific attack on an American tourist in Talbot Street and a shocking incident in the heart of Temple Bar.
Now gardai say that the National Public Order Unit will be deployed to the streets of Dublin – as well as an enhanced number of officers policing main thoroughfares and the Liffey Boardwalk – in a major effort to stamp out crime.
