Wanted Kinahan cartel mobster Sean McGovern is ‘target number one’ in the Gardai’s recent efforts in Dubai, Dublin Live can reveal.

We have learned that senior gardai are more hopeful than ever that McGovern — who had a European Arrest Warrant issued against him last year — will now be booted out of the United Arab Emirates, where he’s believed to have been hiding for the past number of months.

Sources say a major focus of this week’s high-profile meeting between Garda Commissioner Drew Harris and Dubai Police chief Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri was McGovern and his possible deportation. “McGovern is target number one at the moment,” a source said.

“It’s hoped now that this will see him finally brought back to Ireland to face justice. Then the same process can be used against Christy Kinahan and his sons Daniel and Christy Jr.”McGovern is considered to be mob boss Daniel Kinahan’s right-hand man and is wanted here in connection with the gangland killing of innocent Noel ‘Duck Egg’ Kirwan. Gardai announced the European Arrest Warrant against McGovern at a major press conference that also saw the US Department of Treasury issue sanctions against the leadership of the Kinahan cartel in April of last year.Ireland does not have an extradition treaty with the UAE but the country has in recent times worked with foreign governments to have criminal suspects deported.
