Gardaí have arrested a man (30s) and seized approximately €75,000 of suspected cocaine during searches conducted as part of Operation Tara in the Rathnew area of Co. Wicklow on Thursday.
Gardaí attached to the Bray Drugs Unit, along with Wicklow detective and uniform members, conducted a search at a property in the area this morning.
Over the course of this search, cocaine was seized, along with two replica firearms, and drugs paraphernalia.
The suspected drugs will now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis. A statement from gardaí said:
“One male (30’s) was arrested in connection with this seizure. He has since been charged and appeared earlier this afternoon before Bray District Court, where he was remanded in custody.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
The seizure forms part of Operation Tara, which is an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, launched by Commissioner Drew Harris on July 2, 2021.
The focus of the campaign is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels.
This includes international, national and local operations involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
