The company allegedly used by Catriona Carey to defraud mortgage holders out of hundreds of thousands of euro has retained more than €65,000 in capital and reserves, documents filed this week with the company’s office show.

Micro-entity accounts, reflecting the state of the company up to October 31 last year, were filed and on behalf of Careysfort Asset Estates early this week.

According to the accounts, Careysfort retains fixed assets of €65,108.

It listed current assets as zero, accrued income and prepaid payments as zero and creditors falling due within one year as zero.

Total net assets for the company were listed as €65,208 when called up share capital of €100 was included.

This sum was also specified as the company’s capital and reserves.

The accounts were signed off by Catriona Carey, who is listed as the sole director of the company.

This week it emerged that both Carey and her brother DJ were NOT set to inherit a single cent from their late father’s €1m last will and testament.

She previously admitted to the Sunday World that up to €200,000 deposited into the Careysfort account by homeowners was spent on personal items including holidays, a €55,000 BMW and designer clothing.

She told this newspaper that this money is gone and not recoverable.

As well as Carey, detectives have identified two other people as part of a long-running garda investigation into the alleged Careysfort swindle.

John Steadmond who was identified by RTE Investigates as ‘the fake solicitor’ used by Careysfort, was questioned by police in connection with the fraud last March. Steadmond previously denied involvment in Careysfort and told the Sunday World, ‘I’m going to clear my name’

Carey’s former business partner, Patrick ‘Paddy’ Maher, was also questioned by detectives before being released without charge.

Files on all three are currently being prepared for the DPP.

Separately, Maher dodged jail over frauds unrelated to Careysfort last July when he appeared before Wexford Circuit Court over a spree of frauds he carried out over a two-year period.

News that €65,000 in cash remains tied up in the company could prove of some solace to homeowners who lost their properties after handing over tens of thousands of euro to Carey’s company in the belief the company would purchases their mortgages from the banks at a reduced rate.
