GARDAI have smashed another drugs network run by associates of the Kinahan cartel.

In the latest offensive against organised crime in the capital, investigators from the Divisional Drugs Unit and uniformed officers at Finglas Garda station seized €240,000 worth of suspected cannabis on Wednesday afternoon.

The drugs – along with 2,600 in cash – were seized under ‘Operation Tara’ after a number of searches in the Blakestown area of west Dublin.

During the raids, which also involved the Garda Dog Unit, two men aged in their 40s and 20s were arrested.

One of the arrested men is close to Kinahan cartel member Stephen Fowler, who provided support to cartel contract killer Imre Arakas during a plot to kill James Mago Gately in 2017.

The drugs were found at a property and also in a van at a house.

The Irish Sun can reveal Gardai believe the property was acting as a ‘distribution hub’ for west Dublin and Finglas.

Although the drugs were recovered on Wednesday, Gardai believe the hub may have been operating for a number of months.

One source said: “This operation will cause a lot of disruption to the Kinahan organisation’s flow of drugs in west and north Dublin.

“These men were working directly for Stephen Fowler’s associates and the wider Kinahan network.

“The drugs unit who made the seizure are one of the busiest in the country and have had major successes in recovering firearms and drugs in recent years.

“They have had great support from the community who are sick of the Kinahan organisation’s continued involvement in poisoning kids with drugs.”

The two suspects were still being questioned by Gardai about the seizure.

It’s understood one of the prisoners took over a drug dealing network after Fowler was caged for his role in the botched hit on Gately.

‘Operation Tara’ was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris in July 2021.

The aim of the strategy is to “disrupt, dismantle and prosecute” drug trafficking networks “at all levels”.

Crime gangs across the country have been targeted, with Gardai working closely with their international partners as part of investigations.
