It has been reported that around 200 people gathered outside Leinster House ahead of the return of the Dáil session.

Politicians and journalists entering the Leinster House premises were called “traitors” by the crowd that had gathered near the main entrance which was fenced off by gardaí.

Far-right protesters shouted various chants against transgender rights, migration and planned hate speech laws, while some held signs featuring slogans such as “Irish lives matter” and “Ballybrack says no”.

The protesters regularly chanted: “You’ll never beat the Irish.”

Two men have reportedly been arrested under the public order act and charged to appear in court.

Footage appeared on the ‘X’ feed of Fergus ‘Ferg’ Power, a well-known anti-immigration activist who was present at demonstrations outside a building in Ballybrack earlier this year.

Alongside the footage he wrote: “The nearby National Library of Ireland shut as a result of the protest. Heading to the Dáil soon just getting a few things sorted out here. ÉRIN GO BRAGH. #IrelandBelongsToTheIrish.

The event was also flagged as a ‘Call to the Dáil’ on images online that declared: “This is the time. We have the God-given right to free speech. We will not be silenced.”
