A Garda community bus doing the rounds of Dublin’s north inner city will be part of the new comprehensive policing plan announced today

There will also be commitments to fix damaged street lighting, broken paving and other public works to make areas less run-down, which it’s hoped will improve the feeling of safety.

There will be community safety wardens on patrol and enhanced garda presence in “hot spot” public squares and other areas as well.

The Local Community Safety Plan for Dublin’s North Inner City will be a multi-party response to the scary rise in street crime in the capital lately.

It will “acknowledge that the local community knows best how to improve safety in their areas,” and will – working the HSE, Tusla, education providers, business groups, An Garda Siochana, public and community representatives – lay out the plans to identify what actions are needed.

Justice Minister Helen McEntee will launch the new plan in Ballybough Community Centre this morning. She is expected to say: “I want to ensure that those living and working and living in our capital, and those who visit the city, are safe and feel safe.”
