A farm worker asked gardaí if they “wanted to fight” when they investigated damage he had caused at his mother’s home.

Robert Hickey (30) had drunk a full bottle of whiskey on the day of the public order disturbance.

Judge David McHugh said he would leave him without a criminal record if he made a €200 charity donation.

Hickey, an apple-picker from Harelawn Green, Clondalkin, pleaded guilty to criminal damage, threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour, and public intoxication.

Blanchardstown District Court heard it was reported to gardaí that the accused had caused damage at his mother’s address on August 16 this year.

When they attended, they witnessed damage to a glass panel and while they were there the accused walked out and said “do you want a fight?”

He was highly intoxicated and was arrested. Hickey had no previous convictions. A friend of the accused had died recently and on the day the accused had drunk a full bottle of whiskey, his lawyer said.

The issue with his mother had been resolved, the court heard.

Judge McHugh adjourned the case to a date next month.

He said he would leave Hickey without convictions if he donated €200 to Blanchardstown Hospice.
