Part of Ballina has been sealed off tonight as gardai deal with an ongoing incident in the Co Mayo town.

Police activity is focussed on a retail outlet in the Market Square area of Ballina.

Members of the Garda Armed Response Unit (ARU) are assisting the garda operation.

“Gardaí in Ballina are currently at the scene of an ongoing incident in the Market Square area of Ballina, Co. Mayo this evening Wednesday 27th September, 2023.

“As this is a live operation, no further details are available at this time,” a Garda spokesperson said.
