Burglar (32) ate food from kitchen press during north Dublin break-in, court hears

A burglar took food from a kitchen press and ate it during a break-in, it is alleged.

Danny McDonald (32) allegedly “consumed” the food after entering the apartment as a trespasser.

The case was adjourned at Dublin District Court for the accused to decide how he intends to plead.

Mr McDonald, with an address Burnaby Lawns, Greystones, Co Wicklow is charged with entering the property in north inner city Dublin with intent to commit a theft.

The court heard gardaí were called to Seville Place on June 15 this year where a woman reported that an intruder had entered her apartment without permission, took food from the kitchen and consumed it.

Mr McDonald was later located, arrested and charged.

The Director of Public Prosecutions consented to the case remaining in the District Court and Judge Bryan Smyth accepted jurisdiction to deal with it after hearing the summary of the allegations.

The court heard a summary of the prosecution’s case had already been furnished to the defence.

Judge Smyth ordered further disclosure of prosecution evidence and adjourned the case to a date next month, when the accused will be expected to indicate how he intends to plead to the charge.
