A man charged over the seizure of a loaded sawn-off shotgun and ammunition in Drogheda has been remanded in custody.
Glenn Douch (35), of Oakwood Park in Termon Abbey, Drogheda appeared before Judge Eirinn McKiernan at Drogheda District Court on Tuesday morning.
Detective Garda Paul Martin gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.
He said the detective office at Drogheda Garda Station received information about a sawn off shotgun being stored at an address in Termon Abbey in the town.
A Section 29 warrant application was made and the warrant was executed at an address at Oakwood Park in Termon Abbey on Sunday, September 24.
It is alleged Glenn Douch was observed in the bedroom and following a search of the room a Beretta double barrel breech loading sawn off shotgun, allegedly loaded with two bullets, was located.
It is also alleged that seven bullets were also discovered in the bedroom.
Douch was arrested at 11.10pm on Sunday and later charged with being in possession of a loaded Beretta double barrel breech loading sawn off shotgun under Section 2 of the Firearms Act.
He was also charged with being in possession of seven rounds of ammunition under the same Act. Det Gda Martin said the accused made ‘no reply’ to the charge after caution.
He said directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions have not yet been received. Defence solicitor Conor MacGill said there is no application for bail at this time.
Judge McKiernan remanded Douch in custody to Cloverhill Prison to appear before the court again on Monday, October 2 via videolink when directions are expected.
Mr MacGill made an application for free legal aid which was granted and requested the accused receive appropriate medical attention in custody.
Dressed in a blue jacket, black T-shirt and grey tracksuit bottoms, the accused did not address the court during the short hearing.
