Gardai release ‘evofit’ image of suspect wanted over alleged violent assault of woman in Longford

Gardaí have released this image of a suspect that is wanted in connection to an alleged violent assault on a woman in Longford town last month.

Detectives drew up an ‘evofit’ of a male suspect they want to talk to after a woman in her fifties was the victim of an alleged unprovoked attack inside the grounds of the midlands town’s Albert Reynolds Peace Park on August 7.

The woman, who is from the locality, was taken to Mullingar’s Midland Regional Hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A sizable section of walkway at the rear of the park’s leisure complex, which is also known locally as The Mall, was cordoned off for several hours following the incident.

Gardaí believe the woman was confronted by her alleged assailant at approximately 2:30am during which she was punched several times.

The victim managed to flee the scene by running towards the main exit of The Mall where the alarm was raised.

Investigating officers have described the suspect as being in his early 30s, around 5’6 to 5’7 in height, of broad or heavy build with a square face.

He is also described as having short dark hair with a receding hairline while also being clean shaven with a dark, sallow complexion. Anyone with information is asked to contact Longford garda station on (043) 3350570.
