Among his alleged victims listed on the indictment are billionaire Denis O’Brien, Wexford hurling great Larry O’Gorman and former Clare hurler Tony Griffin.

Carey appeared before Blanchardstown District Court to face 19 counts of deception and two counts of forgery on dates between 2014 and 2022.

The five-time All-Ireland winner today appeared before Judge John O’Leary after Gardai obtained directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Dressed in a dark puffer jacket and navy trousers, he stood silently in the dock, clutching his grey beanie hat as evidence of arrest, charge and caution was given.

Carey has yet to indicate a plea, and the cash amounts allegedly involved in the case were not disclosed to the court.

Sergeant Michael Bourke told Judge O’Leary that the accused was arrested at 9.05am at Blanchardstown Garda Station.

And he then charged the GAA legend with the offences at 9.16am.
Carey made no reply after caution.

A total of 23 alleged victims are named in the indictment and Judge O’Leary said Carey wasn’t to contact any of them by phone or email.
