A 41-year-old man found with cannabis, cocaine and heroin at his home has received a suspended jail term at Sligo Circuit Court which heard he was determined to continue his rehabilitation.
Lee Young, of Garavogue Villas, Sligo, had previously appeared at the court where he admitted two counts of possession of drugs for the purposes of sale or supply at Garavogue Villas on January 31, 2019.
Gardaí found 751g of cannabis resin worth €4,506, 47.62g of cocaine worth €3,334 and heroin to the value of €548 at his home.
Cash with a total value of €5,745 was found in a duvet. He acknowledged responsibility for the heroin but denied he was selling the drugs.
Judge Keenan Johnson adjourned the matter to last Thursday with strict conditions attached.
Mr Eugene Deering BL, instructed by Mr Mark Mullaney, solicitor (defending) told the court that a probation report was very positive.
“Everything which has been asked of Mr Young he has done,” pleaded Mr Deering, who added that 80 hours community service had been completed.
The defendant had also engaged with the addiction services and had produced clear urine samples.
“He is determined now to continue on the right path,” pleaded Mr Deering.
Judge Johnson said he noted the very positive probation report.
Mr Leo Mulrooney BL (prosecuting) with State Solicitor Ms Elisa McHugh, stated there had been no offending since the last court in January.
Mr Deering outlined to Judge Johnson that he had indicated on the last occasion he had indicated he would imposed a three year sentence suspended for five years.
Judge Johnson imposed a three year term, suspended for five years with a number of conditions.
These included that the defendant must keep the peace and be of good behaviour for five years, undergo supervision by the Probation Services for six months, remain free of illicit substances including drugs and alcohol, provide analysis if and when required by the Probation Services or Gardaí and to engage with all the relevant counselling agencies.
Judge Johnson aceded to a request from Mr Mulrooney for a destruction order in respect of the drugs.
The cash seized was to be split four ways between Social Ground Force, Sligo Cancer Support Centre, SVP and Sligo Tidy Towns.
