Gardaí in Dublin seized in excess of €21,000 of suspected drugs and a firearm on Monday.

A day of action took place as part of Operation Tara in DMR West on October 9.

Gardaí attached to the Ronanstown Drugs Unit within the Lucan District, carried out a search of a premises at a location in Ronanstown and made the discovery.

A statement from gardaí today said:

“Over the course of this search, Gardai seized over €21,000 in drugs. Diamorphine with an estimated street value of €10,500, cocaine worth €9,170, dalmaine tablets with a value of €1,400 and a small quantity of cannabis was seized.

“A firearm was also seized along with a quantity of ammunition.

“All of the suspected drugs will now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis and the firearm will undergo analysis at the Ballistics Section of the Garda Technical Bureau.”

An image of the seizure was provided with the drugs seen enclosed in small plastic bags. The weapon which was uncovered appears to look like an antique Smith and Wesson pistol, although this is not confirmed.

No arrests have been made as of yet and investigations are ongoing.

Operation Tara is an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris in July 2021.

The focus is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, sale and supply of controlled drugs.
