Garda pleads guilty to assaulting woman, two males over 11-year period

A garda has pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman and two males over a period of 11 years.

Mark Doyle, 38, who was stationed in Dublin and is currently on suspension, today admitted six counts of assault causing harm to the three victims between 2008 and 2019.

Two other charges were taken into account.

He was remanded on bail for sentencing in January.

Doyle was charged almost two years ago with eight counts of assault causing harm to three victims over an 11-year period.

He was sent forward for trial to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court and pleaded guilty to six of the assault charges when they were put to him this morning. The other two charges were taken into account.

He admitted assaulting a woman causing her harm on dates between 2008 and 2019.

He also pleaded guilty to assaulting two young males causing them harm, one on an unknown date between 2008 and 2009, the other in September 2017.

All the offences are contrary to Section 3 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

Doyle was arrested and charged following an investigation by the Garda National Protective Services Bureau.

He stood in the court today and replied guilty to the charges as they were read to him.

The attacks on the three victims, as outlined in the charges, commenced in 2008/2009 and continued in 2010 and 2011, before resuming in 2017 and 2019.

Judge Orla Crowe remanded Doyle on continuing bail to appear again for sentencing in January.
