Man (20s) arrested over robbery and attempted robbery of two women in Dundalk

The suspect assaulted a woman, knocked her to the ground, and attempted to steal her handbag but was unsuccessful.

Gardaí have arrested a man over a robbery and attempted robbery in Dundalk , Co Louth over the weekend.

On Sunday afternoon, the suspect approached a woman in her 70s on Bachelors Walk at around 2pm. He then assaulted the victim, knocked her to the ground, and tried to steal her handbag but was unsuccessful.

No items were taken during this incident, and he fled the scene on foot.

Half an hour later, a woman in hers 60s was approached by a man on Williamson Place who pushed her to the ground and took her handbag. He then ran away with the stolen bag.

The incidents were reported to gardaí, who arrested a man in his 20s a short time later. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a garda station in County Louth.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed these incidents to contact them.

“Anyone who was in the vicinity of Williamson Place, Bachelors Walk and the Seatown areas of Dundalk yesterday afternoon between 1pm and 3pm and who may have noticed any unusual activity is asked to contact investigating gardaí,” a spokesperson said.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 9388400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.”
