Web Summit boss Paddy Cosgrave has said goodbye to Twitter, or X as it is now known, after a serious row over the Israel-Palestine conflict.
Israel has withdrawn from the Web Summit in Lisbon next month after a controversial social media post from the Wicklow man.
Several tech industry executives also say they won’t attend the conference over the issue.
The Irish entrepreneur had tweeted: “I’m shocked at the rhetoric and actions of so many Western leaders and governments, with the exception in particular of Ireland’s government, who for once are doing the right thing.
“War crimes are war crimes even when committed by allies and should be called out for what they are.”
Mr Cosgrave also put a tweet prior to that where he condemned the actions of Hamas.
However, Israeli ambassador to Portugal, Dor Shapira, accused Mr Cosgrave of “extreme political views.”
