Taxi driver assaulted and cab stolen in Galway town – Gardai launch investigation

Gardaí in Galway have launched an investigation after a taxi driver was left with serious injuries and his cab was stolen following an incident in the early hours of Sunday morning.
At around 1:30am on October 15, a taxi driver in a car park in Barna, Connemara was allegedly assaulted by a passenger. It is alleged the male passenger then took control of the vehicle and fled the scene.
The driver of the taxi was treated for his injuries which were described as serious but not life-threatening.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told Galway Beo: “Gardaí are investigating the theft of a vehicle that occurred in Barna, County Galway in the early hours of this morning, Sunday, October 15.
“The incident occurred at a car park in Barna at approximately 1:30am, after the male passenger of a car assaulted the driver of the car.
“Following the altercation, where the male driver received serious but non-life threatening injuries, the passenger took control of the vehicle and drove away from the scene.
“The driver of the car received medical attention following the incident. Investigations are ongoing at this time.”
