A burglary gang whose members boast about taking off their shoes as “a mark of respect” when breaking into victims’ houses has stolen up to 10 vehicles in the past week.

The gang, made up of teenagers and men in their early 20s, use an Eircode as their identity symbol and joyride in the vehicles they steal while videoing their antics. One part of the gang operates out of Balbriggan in north County Dublin and uses the town’s Eircode ‘K23’ as their identity symbol, we can reveal.

And only this week, three cars were stolen in the Skerries area of north county Dublin where they managed to gain entry to a house and took the car keys. They also removed their shoes when entering that particular house, sources say.

“They video all of their thefts of cars to show off on TikTok accounts to similar gangs in areas such as Coolock, Finglas and Ballyfermot. It’s like it’s a competition for them all,” sources told this paper.

“The gang go around housing estates after midnight and target homes where doors have been left unlocked and walk in, take their shoes off and steal the car keys. They then take the vehicles joyriding and racing on roads,” sources continued. The gang also targets unlocked vehicles.

On several pages on TikTok, seen by this paper, the gang put up a victim’s comments she wrote on another social media site about what happened to her at the hands of the gang. The victim wrote: “They only went into the kitchen and robbed my bag and key. We were blessed. Only woke up hearing them revving. They took their shoes off inside the house.”

In comments on TikTok one gang member said it was “a bit of respect” for taking their shoes off. Another wrote: “Steal from the rich to feed the poor.”

Several videos show the gang wearing black gloves with car keys in their hands and opening cars before driving off in them speeding along motorways, doing donuts and speeding along country roads.

Another video shows several people in a white jeep speeding through a field with a second video showing the same jeep abandoned and crashed with one of the gang’s TikTok names spray painted on the bonnet while other videos show cars burnt out and crashed.

There are now fears the gangs – which are being tracked and investigated by gardai – are planning ‘something big’ for Halloween night with other gangs. “It’s a very worrying development and they are putting innocent people’s lives at risk with their joyriding,” a source said.
