A gang of youths wearing balaclavas and helmets smashed a lock to steal a motorcycle on a busy street in Dublin city centre.
The incident happened on George’s Street in the city centre on Friday 20 October. In a video seen by Dublin Live, a gang of three youths on motorcycles pull up next to a parked motorcycle.
One youth was wearing a black balaclava as he hopped off his own motorcycle before approaching the parked motorcycle, which was chained to a metal post. The youth began pushing the motorcycle lock with his foot as a second youth joined in, eventually freeing the motorcycle.
He then quickly wheeled the motorcycle away as desperate passersby tried to stop him. The group then fled the scene on motorcycles.
Speaking to Dublin Live, Independent Cllr Mannix Flynn says that he was sent the video over the weekend. He said that motorcycle thefts have become an “epidemic” throughout Dublin city centre.
He said: “The bike was stolen on Friday on George’s Street and the man who owned it had gone inside a shop to get something when it was taken.
