A former soldier charged with assaulting and injuring his partner at an army barracks in Dublin is facing trial on the charge.

Darragh Baldrick (24) had his case adjourned for the preparation of a book of evidence when he appeared in Dublin District Court today.

Judge David McHugh remanded him on continuing bail to a date in December.

Mr Baldrick is charged with assault causing harm to a woman at Cathal Brugha barracks, Rathmines on May 9.

He was charged that month and the case came back before the court today for the directions of the DPP.

The accused took a seat in the dock after being invited by the judge to sit down.

State solicitor Mark Donnelly said the DPP’s directions were for trial on indictment and he was seeking an adjournment.

The judge granted this, and heard an extension of the time for the service of the book of evidence was not required.

Mr Baldrick did not address the court during the brief hearing.

He will be sent for trial to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court when the book of evidence is ready.

Previously, Garda Brendan O’Callaghan said he arrested the accused at the barracks and brought him to Rathmines garda station where he was charged and made no reply after caution.

Bail was set with conditions that Mr Baldrick must stay away from the alleged victim and her home in west Dublin.

He is to have no contact with her, directly or indirectly including by social media. Mr Baldrick has not yet entered a plea to the charge, which is under the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.
