A Portrush man was today ordered to stand trial accused of assaulting and threatening his ex-partner.
Appearing at Coleraine Magistrates Court by videolink from prison, 28-year-old Wesley Moore McLucas confirmed he was aware of the eight charges against him, all alleged to have been committed over two days between 1-2 February this year.
McLucas, listed as c/o Maghaberry prison but previously from Skerrymor Place in the harbour town, faces two charges of breaching a restraining order, two charges of making a threat to damage property, two counts of common assault as well as single charges of theft and criminal damage.
The facts of the case were not opened but the particulars of the offences allege that McLucas breached the restraining orders by “using violence upon and made personal contact with” the alleged victim, threatened to destroy her home and that of her mother, still her mobile phone and that he damaged two televisions.
A prosecuting lawyer submitted there was a Prima Facie case against McLucas which was conceded by the 28-year-old’s solicitor while the defendant himself declined to exercise his right to comment on the charges or call evidence on his own behalf.
Remanding McLucas back into custody, District Judge Peter King returned the case to Antrim Crown Court for trial but he did not fix a date for the arraignment.
