GSOC probe launched into motorbike crash that left young man with serious injuries after Garda chase

THE Garda watchdog is probing an incident after officers allegedly chased motorbikes before a crash that left a young man with serious injuries.

The collision occurred Saturday afternoon on the M50.

It is understood that the gardai gave chase to two bikes, which were then involved in a collision.

Video taken from a car passing the scene shows two motorbikes lying separately on the road, with several Garda cars in attendance.

Gardai said in a statement that they attended an incident on the M50 at junction 11 northbound which involved an official Garda vehicle and a pedestrian at around 3.30pm.

A man, in his 20s, was seriously injured in the incident and was later taken to Tallaght University Hospital for treatment.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The section of the M50 was closed and has since reopened after a technical examination by a Garda forensic team.

Meanwhile, the crash has been referred to the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission.
